The City of Grants and the Village of Milan have adopted the Vision Zero Safety Action Plan with the goal of eliminating all traffic fatalities and serious injuries by 2030. In collaboration with the Northwest New Mexico Council of Governments (NWNMCOG) and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), this plan prioritizes safe, equitable mobility for all road users—including pedestrians, cyclists, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and motorists.
Developed through crash data analysis, stakeholder engagement, and community feedback, the plan identifies high-risk areas, sets safety goals, and outlines countermeasures to improve road conditions. Emphasis is placed on reducing speed, addressing hazardous intersections, enhancing pedestrian safety, and targeting infrastructure gaps in disadvantaged communities.
Implementation strategies include engineering upgrades, policy changes, enforcement, and education efforts. Projects are categorized into short-, medium-, and long-term initiatives, with oversight from a dedicated task force and supported by funding from federal, state, and local sources.
This action plan serves as a roadmap to build a safer, more inclusive transportation network across Grants and Milan, with ongoing evaluation to ensure measurable progress toward the Vision Zero goal: Safe Streets for All.
